Health and Safety - State Swim Swimming Schools
Health and Safety
Well maintained and monitored pools pose very little threat to you or your child's health. Filter systems efficiently remove unwanted solid matter while chlorine kills practically all germs. In fact, your home bathtub and bathwater are more likely to make you ill. Remember also that water is not the only way that bacteria and viruses are transported. Many germs travel through air, while others are transmitted through person to person contact. At least in the pool, water borne germs are at a disadvantage because of the chlorine's instant killing effect.
Although our Programmes are an enjoyable way to enhance you and your child's all round development, we should acknowledge the fact that the common sense approach to all aspects of healthy living is a prudent measure to maintain good health.
Consequently, we ask that you respect our precautionary health rules and refrain from attending lessons if you or your child are suffering from any of the following communicable complaints:
- Viral Infections eg. Colds, Sore throats or Fever
- Cold Sores
- Conjunctivitis
- Urinary Tract Infections
- Gastroenteritis (within the last 24 hours) vomiting and diarrhea
- Ringworm
- Rubella
- and any other contagious disease
Constant Supervision - Always
Given a particular situation, anyone can drown, including Olympic swimmers, lifeguards and certainly babies who have had swimming lessons.
Being safety conscious is just as important as any training you give your child. When visiting a new water environment, spend a minute or two becoming familiar with potential dangers and mentally go through in your mind what you would do in an emergency situation. Who would you send to summon help etc.
In an emergency your capacity to reason is blocked and what you have stored in your below-reasoning level awareness is triggered off. If you have learnt resuscitation techniques you are less likely to panic and will act in the appropriate manner.
You may one day safe a life, and it could be the life of your child.
